What I'm Seeing Now

Caulking And Goop Cause Home Inspectors To Snoop (As A Group)

Caulking and goop cause home inspectors to snoop (as a group).

Did that encourage you into my loop?  Or join my troop?

Certainly some things lead to other things.

So what do we see here?

The red arrows point out that:

~ shingles have been glued down with caulking.  This, of course, is NOT permanent or professional.

~ caulking has been applied in many places and many times.  This, of course, is NOT permanent or professional.

~ an asphalt tar has been applied in many places and many times.  This, of course, is NOT permanent or professional.

~ nail heads have been caulked in many places and many times.  This, of course, is NOT permanent or professional.

When any home inspector sees something like this, as a group, and a troop, the response is to look inside.

So, what did you think you'd see?

Somebody else saw it too.

And "fixed" it!

If that person was a "professional" he should be ashamed.

If that person knows this "fix" is not working he should be ashamed.

If that person, assuming all that is true, wants to sell the house with this "fixed" problem to somebody else he should be ashamed.

This problem is not fixed and will not get better.

My recommendation:  if you do call on the group of home inspectors to snoop and they find things like this, while it might snag up the buying process it does so in a way that benefits all parties.  As I said at the outset, certainly some things lead to other things.  And in more ways than one.

The super snooper, Jay Markanich, discovers the goop, stuff & hair raising issues with any home inspection...I'd say he is worth hiring!

Thanks Miss GG!  The good thing was this was visible from the hallway and my client did not have to go up a ladder to see it!

What, caulk doesn't solve everything?  I thought it was a carpenters best friend?  Now I have to rethink everything.

I was disgusted they used caulking and goop and not duct tape Stephen.  But to each his own.

That's what I do, Roy.

What you say Fred?  Who chews Dubble Bubble?

Hey, what's that in my office, just inches from my desk?

All that guy had to do was call and I would have given him all the Dubble Bubble he needed!

Hmm, Dr. Seuss could have gone somewhere with this!  Homeowner fixes often leave clues, which is probably a good thing.

Oh I had to laugh because my husband was just using caulk everywhere the other day. Not in our home, but our boat. It was actually what should be used, in his case.  At least I think so???  LOL

Dianne - when I can do an alliterative title I do!  The content was not Seussian though.

Sharon - I think the marine appliacations are different.  He's probably right on the money.
