What I'm Seeing Now

Patches

PATCHES

Sing along with the roof:

Sometimes I felt that I couldn't go on,
I wanted to leave, just run away from home.
But I would remember what my daddy said,
With tears in his eyes on his dyin' bed,

He said, "Patches,
I'm dependin' on you, son.
I tried to do my best,
It's up to you to do the rest..."

When I was a kid my mother used to patch holes in my pants.  Sometimes she would patch the patches!  The idea was to get the pants to last longer.  They lasted until I grew out of them.

Patching  works great for little boy pants.

Patching  does not work great for roofs.

The rear roof here was just as clever as the front roof.

My recommendation:  if you pull up to a house and examine the roof, and see something like this, you can assume that the rest of the house probably contains similar McGyver repairs throughout!  It did in this case!  Such roof repairs do not work.  The photo is all you need to know about this house.  Nuff said.

Good Friday morning Jay. Okay? So? I'm glad that you know how to spell patches. Now wher is the rest of the post?

This has happened before.  It was swallowed by the cyber beasts.

Back up now.  I had to rewrite it!

Jay, if I saw that roof I suggest not looking at that house! Enjoy your day!

My idea exactly Wayne!

Good morning Jay.  With the roof in that condition I bet the inside was something to behold....

We did not spend much time James.  I was amazed.  It takes a lot to amaze me.

The inventory here is low and people who have dog doo to sell are trying.  But sometimes it's just too big a pile.  Good luck selling the pile in the photo.

Patches in our pants in the late 60s, early to mid 70s, were "cool" which was a word back then that meant good.  Patches on roofs?  Nope, not so cool.

Jay, I'll have to admit I'm a little surprised that they didn't fix that prior to putting the property on sale. Oh, and I had patches too. Just threw a pair of jeans away with a patch on the knees.

♫ then one day a strong rain came and washed all the crops away ♫. Good one Jay!

Good morning Jay,

The song does fit the photo and reminds me of some jeans I have worn in the past; oh and that sport coat with the patches on the sleeve.

Make yourself a great day.

Are you sure those aren't escape hatches? Oh, and thanks for putting that song in my head...  paybacks!

I'm not even sure what to say about this one.  I'm assuming the house is on the market if you were called.  And someone is thinking about buying it.  Wow.

Kat - they were a standard feature in my neighborhood!  And we were cool with or without them!

Says he, with a grin.

Mike - there were a WHOLE lot of things they did not fix!  And patches on your pants would be the bomb.

Kevin - could have continued with the song!  So, thanks!

Raymond - seems to me they still make the sport coats with patches.  But I could be wrong.

I'm not sure at all Fred!  But I escaped through the front door...

Stephen - they aren't thinking about it any more!

Jay- it looks like something you'd see in a cartoon.   And yes, it makes you wonder if this is how they repaired their roof, what other repair jobs did they do.

Who knows, Kathy.  Those repairs may be the subject of future posts!

What?. . .Are you tellin' me you won't certify that roof, Jay?  What would you need to do to make it certifiable?

Chuckles on this end!

Posted by Myrl Jeffcoat, Greater Sacramento Real Estate Agent (GreatWest Realty) almost 3 years ago

I would need to make me certifiable, Myrl.

Nice one! Good touch with the pants...I will have to show this to a friend who runs a roofing company in Philly and used to get his pants torn to shreds.

A roofer would not do this, David.  Hopefully.
