What I'm Seeing Now

My Top Five Comment-Getting Blogs For 2011

In reviewing my blog posts for the past year, I was impressed to see which posts got the most comments.

Comments seem to come with posts that are very instructive or very controversial.  And I don't write posts to be controversial, and certainly when I write about home inspection issues.  Sometimes, though, they turn out to be!

So here they are, from the one with the most comments to the fifth.  The fifth was a tie between two:

289 comments - "I'm Being Reported"
218 comments - "Am I Sensing A Disturbing Trend?"
215 comments - "Oh, They Didn't Need You.  The County Did The Inspection"
208 comments - "A Very Sad And Dangerous Inspection"
141 comments - "What You See Outside Often Translates Inside"
141 comments - "The Fabled Tankless Water Heater"

As to the most shameless, Capitalist Pig post of the year, it has to go to Billy Jays with this post:

"Wet Yer Whistle" - the very fact that he was trying to take advantage of a very serious scientific post I found to be unconscionable.  And you should know that the very serious scientific post was published on April Fool's Day, but that was pure coincidence.

My free enterprise blog that got the most attention nationwide in this and another venue:

"Widows And Orphans"  You mean that's who owns corporations and gets most of the corporate profits?

All in all, it was a very good year for blogging for me.  My blogs were titled such that they got me very good Google juice.  I expect that since Google liked them, so did the other search engines.  A couple of my posts just this past week have made page one already, so obviously Active Rain gets attention.

And so do our blogs!

I know blogging works because of so many phone calls from people who have read them and desire a home inspection.

Jay, thanks for sharing the statistics with us, I will have to check the posts out.

Wishing you a Prosperous and Healthy New Year

Jay, you are a master with your posts, and the comments prove it! Titles on these were "provocative" which is a great thing. Boring titles often don't get clicked, do they.

Have a very happy and healthy New Year! Pass the same to Billy Jays too!

Good morning Jay;  A very happy New Year to you and yours.  I am expecting that in 2012 you will be an Ambassador.

Congrats on what must have been a very gratifying year-end review, and also on the Google juice you generated. I enjoy your blogs and the catchy titles definitely make them stand out. Good luck in 2012...I'll be looking for more interesting topics and nuggets of wisdom from your home inspection experiences.

Thanks David.  And if you do, I hope you enjoy them!

Andrea - the titles also should be such that they get some google juice.  I hope so anyway!

Ken - I don't know how that Ambassador thing works and besides, I just enjoy blogging!

Yes, you'ave had a very good year (reminds me of Frank Sinatra).  I remember most of those posts.  I'm in process of compiling my top ones for the year (based on clicks).

Posted by Debbie Gartner, The Flooring Girl & Blog Stylist -Dynamo Marketers (The Flooring Girl) almost 7 years ago

Thanks Charlie.  I am happy you are a satisfied reader!  And all the good luck backatcha.

Debbie - I didn't check clicks.  A couple of my blogs have more than 10,000 reads though!  I expect that is more than just AR.

Hi Jay,  I enjoyed reading from your list of blogs...most of which I saw when you wrote them.  Now, you've gotten my interest piqued to check on the stats for my stuff too.  Maybe there will be another post like this with you mentioned as the inspiration.  I hope you don't mind.  Have a Happy New Year and I'm subscribing so I can quit catching as catch can where you are concerned.

Good morning, Jay. Wow! Your da man. I thought I was doing good to break 75 on a feature. 289? You rock...

Posted by Michael Thornton, Nashville Area - Photography & Videography (RadnorLake Video) almost 7 years ago

Cheryl - where will that be coming from?  I am sure there are those with many more than I!

Michael - maybe mine were more controversial?  I had a whole bunch over 100.

Nice work. Remember them all. I haven't checked my stats, maybe I'll go look.

It is worth the effort Jim, to see where people are looking.  I have never done it before now.

Jay, you have done some great posts over the year and I suspect there are more to follow this New Year.  Have a great one my friend.  Lets keep dancing in the rain.

Posted by Charles Buell, Seattle Home Inspector (Charles Buell Inspections Inc.) almost 7 years ago

Thanks Peg.  My son photo shopped Billy Mays's beard onto my face for the Billy Jays look.  It is just a prop!

Thanks Shadow.  I am not the philosophe you are!  And you probably don't want to see me dancing in anything really, unless it's a foxtrot or a waltz, which I do pretty well.

Hey Jay, 289 comments?  Wow!  I know you're religious about following up with all of those comments, and I admire that.  I wish I could be as diligent about that as your are.  Good job.

Reubs - often the post post follow-up is a significant time draw!  As you probably know.  To me it is like reading a book - an author carefully chose certain words for me to enjoy, so I might as well read them!  People take the time to comment on my blogs - I should honor that.

I do my best, but on the rare occasions that I make the daily drop... I just get overwhelmed.
