What I'm Seeing Now

Pumpkin Pie

What is Thanksgiving without pumpkin pie?

I like everything we have for Thanksgiving dinner, and we are very traditional.  But I really like pumpkin pie and could live off of it if necessary.

All our pies were baked yesterday.  We have a full house, so this year's menu includes one pecan pie, two cheesecakes and one pumpkin pie.

This is the pumpkin pie on the rack of the lower oven, set to cool.  You can see the cool pecan under it, and the cheesecake pies beside and behind.

It has cooled a bit and the hottest part of the pie, seen as white, is 188.6F.

Why do we celebrate Thanksgiving?  Because our first president, in 1789, thought to give thanks and thought we, as a new country, should do so together.

Among other things in his official Proclamation he said we should celebrate our thanks:

"That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks--for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation--for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war--for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed--for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted--for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us."

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!

We have two big stainless steel bowls of whipped cream made just before they are needed Michael.  And the bowls are frozen so the stuff stays cool!

Lisa - I teased my wife last night, when she got back from the mall, that we couldn't wait and had a couple of pieces of the pumpkin pie.  I got the look...

I get that look a lot.

Thanks Don.  Have a great day today.

Don H. - I will have a piece of that too!  Don't make it too soupy!

Jay,

Is the center less well baked?  I am sure it didn't cool faster from the center...

Glad you had the three great choices available, pecan, pumpkin and cheesecake.
