Nobody has more fun than I with things that I see on home inspections that are not considered best practices. Sure, the line, "But I've always done it this way," comes up a lot. And some things that are not done professionally can be funny, and instructive. That's where Mr. Jay's Neighborhood and Billy Jays comes in.
But I thought that no matter what our profession, there are things out there that are done right. There are people giving their best shots. There are products that really work, and work well. And there are techniques that we can all learn from.
So I thought to start a new group on Active Rain.
Best Practices
When you see something done right, let us know!
When you see a new product that is doing what it's intended and has really improved our lot, take a picture and let us know!
When a new technique, service, person, business or acquaintance is doing something we can all learn from, teach the rest of us!
LET'S TRY TO FIND THE POSITIVE AND DO THE POSITIVE. AND SHARE IT!
Anyone can do it their own way, right or not.
Anyone can pull the wool over another's eyes.
Anyone can hide bad work and tarnish the Golden Rule.
But not everyone tries to employ the Golden Rule! And when they do, and you see it, or you do it yourself, let us know! Not everyone does and so when we see it happen, we need to talk it up! There are HUGE upsides to doing things right, being a professional and employing best practices, but the downside of not doing things right is much HUGER.
I for one love to see things done right! I love to see people trying their best! I love people who demonstrate that they are a true neighbor (and proximity does NOT define the word neighbor...)! Do you see the key word in those sentences...?
I'm up for it. Are you?
Join up, share with us and teach us all. Make us feel good about things!

Positive is GOOD! I am in! ;)
Dear Jay -
Am going to sign right up! Like the idea a lot.
Want to re-blog right now!
Have a happy day -
Lynn
You have to post this in YOUR GROUP so we can easily click over.... You chose 5 others....
Thanks Lauren! And thanks for the suggestion to post it in my group. I will now. Sorry, very amateur at this.
And thank you Lynn. Let's have some fun!
Ah!Perfect! There it is.... and Lynn needs to do the same.... I had no place to click>>>
Lauren - grrathiath for joining! I just made the change.
Good morning, Jay. Good luck with your new group. Change is good, positive is even better...
And your link to your new group is where? H-m-m-m, did you forget something???
Jay - I like it!
I'm in! I think I'll find it in the GROUPS you posted this to.....I love looking at where people post their POSTS!
Yep! I found it
Hi Jay,
We all need a little "good" feedback. I hope this group will do just that.
Have a great day.
Best, Clint McKie
Michael - 'tis here: http://activerain.com/groups/bestpractices Not forgotten. It's at the bottom of my post too.
Thanks for the input.
Carol - thanks! Participate!
Wallace - that is the place!
Clint - this should be fun. It does take posts to a different direction. Mine for sure! I have more fun than anybody with the wrong stuff!
Jay - Excellent. What a great idea. I will join, too. We need more positive energy and ways to learn and celebrate.
Thanks Debbie. Celebrate, and dance to the music.
I'm there
Positive change...glad to see that spirit is alive since AR decided "rewarding" members with points for Paying it Forward and setting a good example was no longer point worthy.....but that's another blog...count us in !
Congratulations - This post is now featured in Silent Majority Group of Active Rain!
I am in - I enjoy sharing and learning. Thanks for the opportunity, Jay.
I also have lots of fun with my job. People think I'm a bit strange when I get excited admiring good work. I try and spread the word when ever I find someone who employs best practices or just simply does it right. So I'll join up.
Wonderful idea...I am in - spreading good news is always fun!
Jay,
The first is joining the group, which I just did. I really like this idea, this it's sort of forces you to go out and look for the positive.
Rich
Thanks James! Welcome aboard.
And you too S&D. You guys pay so much forward, you don't need points here for it! You are getting all that psychic (and spiritual) reward!
Thanks for the feature Nick, and glad to provide you a forum!
Great Jim. I know you do. And start spreading, like buttah.
Thanks Lisa. I think this will be real popular and allow people to teach and spread the good word. Not THAT good word, this one!
Richard - if this gets real popular I might spread it out to Wordpress or somewhere else!
Jay, Very good. Like the concept and the attitude. It is important for anyone involved in the business of "homes" - whether selling, improving, building, expanding, inspecting - that we all have a source or two identify the good, bad and ugly things that happen to homes. I'm joining.
I love the idea. I've joined the group, after a bit of searching.
Jay the link is not at the bottom of your AR blog. I only got it from your answer to Michael, commenter # 11.
I have a few good practices to report on once I get some time to write. See you soon.
Jay, LOVE the idea.
Sometimes we forget in the world that there is so much right we all tend to focus on the not so.
Enjoy the day
Jay, nice idea, now I have another group to post something to once a year ;)
Hi Jay - Great idea for a group. I'm looking forward to partcipating.
Thanks Brad. See you around the group!
Robert - it is at the bottom of the post, where it says "Post is included in ..." Check the Best Practices in blue up there!
Thanks Don. I will enjoy the rest of the day!
Dedra - great and look forward to your posts!
Once a year Duckster? You of all people see good stuff around the pond all the time!
Dick - great to make your acquaintance! Post away!
Would love to join.
I'm down. I have a post I'm going to share on your new group very soon.
Jay,
Good concept for a group and a great initial response. I joined. :)
Steve
I'm in -- this sounds like a great idea for a new group. I can hardly wait to see the posts.
Jay,
Great Idea I am in. I do find myself admiring something when it is done well. Too bad we have to spend so much time with what is not done well ; )
Thanks Yolanda. Good to have you along.
Great Reubs. I thought it would be a nice change if we inspectors could say why something was right instead of wrong. When we point out the wrong then we have to say why we think it isn't best practice or whatever. Sure easier to say lookie here.
Steve - I thought it would get a good response. Thanks for the reblog!
Joan - I ran across something yesterday I thought was worthy.
Don - I agree. This will be a nice twist. Every now and then I run across a homeowner-installed something that is so inventive in a good way I have to love it. Might not be "best practice," but maybe it should!
I'm all in!
Great Karl! It's about time for something like this. I'll have a post tomorrow.
P.s. I hope you enjoyed my authentic southern VA talk on your other post. Right from my wife's family to you!
Sharing best practices is the easiest way to improve, Jay, I am in...
I will look for this group now
Thanks Chris. The link is at the bottom of the post.
Lenn - I just looked and the box to make it a closed group is not checked. What should I do? I'm new at this...
NEVERMIND. I just looked and I'm already a MEMBER. That's why I couldn't join. I can't keep up with groups but this is a good one.
Me too. They won't let me join. Go figure...
