What I'm Seeing Now

PahPah Encounter Of The First Kind

It's not often you get to do this for the first time.

Actually, you only get one shot at it.

And first impressions are everything!

This is my First Encounter with my first grand child!

His name is Pace and I am PahPah.

And we are getting along.

Three weeks old at this point and doing great.

We will be here for couple more days and will have some more time together.

This is very fun!  And I am glad to have lived long enough to experience it...

Congratulations PahPah! Enjoy every moment you can spend with your first grand child they grow up quickly. You'll find it quite different from raising your own children; you can enjoy and then go home and leave the work, crying and diper changes to mom and dad.

Jay - Congratulations!!!!   I am not a grandmother yet, but am excited for the eventual day!    Remember to enjoy them OFTEN, as since you are not there all of the time, they grow even faster than your own!

Hey Jay ... now you can be comfortable in knowing that when people call you grandpa ... they're right!  Congratulations on such a big event!  And what an interesting name:  Pace!  Best part ... you get to practice up on all your "spoiling"skills ... it's actually easier than you think!

Precious!!! I'm Nana-Boo to my 7 year old granddaughter. I wish I could have more grandkids, but this may be it. They grow up SO fast, enjoy every minute PahPah! And just so you know, Pace will be setting the pace of your life very soon.

Congratulations, Jay!

You fellers look like you are having a marvelous time getting to know each other.

Oh, yeah.  It is obvious that the little guy has the bigger guy wrapped around his finger...

Congrats Jay and thanks for sharing. I'm 56 and my kids are 10 and 9 years old, I hope I live long enough to see my grandchildren.

Congratulations!  I hear that grand children are the best because you can send them home when you are done!

Jay, I think the look on your face speaks volumes!  Glad you had a safe trip out there and are enjoying time with your new grandson.

Congratulations PahPah.  As a GG I can tell you there isn't anyway to describe the feeling of holding your grandchild.  Are you using the mosture meter to determine when the diapers are wet or going with the old fashioned method of smell?

Congrats on your new title of PahPah.  That grandson of yours is just beautiful!  Enjoy it!

Thanks C&C - unfortunately we are 2500 miles apart so personal visits will be difficult.  I will have to look into Skype!

Thanks Stephanie!  Should I put together a "spoil list" of things to do?

Dagny - as often as I can.  That will be a tall order, but we'll see!

Jack - I think I have to start doing that.  I thought Pace was an interesting name too, and we came to find out it means "Passover," but I don't recall the language, maybe Hebrew.

Wow, Nana-Boo - did you start having children at 12?  Glad you are enjoying it so much!

Mike - I have already loaded him up with Redskin stuff, to the chagrin of his parents, but a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do..  I know you hear me.

Posted by Jay Markanich, Home Inspector - servicing all Northern Virginia (Jay Markanich Real Estate Inspections, LLC) almost 10 years ago

Thanks Jim, that is a good picture.  Looking forward to more of them!

Seems that way Susan.  We get home Sunday night.  Kind of a short visit, but my daughter (the new auntie) could not stay out of school too long.

That's easy Bob!  Exodus 20: 12!  Now you can spread your fingers like Spock and say, "Live long and prosper..."

Posted by Jay Markanich, Home Inspector - servicing all Northern Virginia (Jay Markanich Real Estate Inspections, LLC) almost 10 years ago

Damon - it appears that this one, and others, will be sending me home!  So I have to make the most of spoiling while here!

You think so Brian?  Hard to tell in that shot...  He focuses in on faces already (3 weeks) and gets a concerned look when he sees me.  I guess I would too.

So far it's pretty neat Charlie!  Pace is the first of hopefully hundreds...      ;)

Posted by Jay Markanich, Home Inspector - servicing all Northern Virginia (Jay Markanich Real Estate Inspections, LLC) almost 10 years ago

Debbie - he is a real gentle little personality, hardly complains.  None of my kids were binky lovers, but he is.  It's easy to settle him if he gets bored!

Thanks Sherlo, um, Michael.  Maybe I can make a QR for him!  Hopefully yours are nearer by.  Hey, you changed avatars before the genie gave me my wishes.  Can I count this as one of them?

S&D - with an "h" or without, a PahPah by any other name smells just as sweet.  My grandfather was PahPah too, but I only knew him for 4 years.

Posted by Jay Markanich, Home Inspector - servicing all Northern Virginia (Jay Markanich Real Estate Inspections, LLC) almost 10 years ago

Cindy - I have to agree.  It is a new stage in life and one I have looked forward to.  Our family has broad generations, but we get there eventually.  No gadgets on the trip to determine anything.  I have had to go old school.

Kathryn - thank you!  He is.  This is a very dear and gentle baby.  And very fun to be around.  Going on a road trip today!  His first!

Congratulations Jay,

Mike and I are very happy for you and your family. Pace is beautiful, I hope you get to spend loads and loads of time with him.

Jay, your first grandchild is adorable!  And what a great name!  I'm sure you made a great first impression - you are very good at that.

Posted by Patricia Kennedy, Home in the Capital (RLAH Real Estate) almost 10 years ago

Thank you Sue.  Where you been?

Pat - and thank you!  I'm not sure how much he will remember me, but we are going on a road trip today!  His first time out of the house!

Jay,

You are right, grandkids are fun. At times they can be pretty amusing too.

And harder to make the same mistakes again with them that we made the first time around, huh Steve?

Your heart has just been captivated in a way you never imagined.  You will never be the same.  They just swoop in and take your heart.  By the way, Christmas will forever be changed as well.  Heart-felt congratulations.
