What I'm Seeing Now

All Hands On Decks

Well, it looks like a sunny day coming up!  Woohoo!

But not supposed to get very warm.

Hopefully things will begin to melt.

We cannot use either back door.  So I will have to create a path to one of them the old fashioned way.

Here is the upper deck on our house.  I was happy to see the underside of our grill!  From above it is completely gone!

The dog is not happy going all the way to the basement door to get out, but IS happy to have the underside of the deck for her business!

The lower deck is the key.  If only I can find the stair case to get up there to start cleaning them both!

My wife is worried the snow may be too much weight for the decks.  Well, probably not, but this has been a good test!

I hope I don't have to dig a path to my daughter's play set!  That would be quite the job...

Because of high winds and drifting it is hard to know how much snow we got.  I think it is around 30".

We have about an inch here from a little squall a few days ago. I am very glad I didn't have to shovel any snow from that storm. You guys got walloped.

Wow!  You folks really got it bad.  We only had 5-6 in Staten Island.  Thanks for the pictures.

Best of luck to you today in the snow. Pretty sunny here in Phoenix today. Go Colts

Jim - poor babies...

Dennis - there was light, and it was good!

Ken - I am only half way down my driveway, with the Himalayas between my car and the street...

Harry - see the comment to Jim above!  I kind of favor the Colts too, if I had to choose.

I would like to see a picture of your dog playing in the snow. When I lived in PA there was always lots of snow to shovel. I just looked at shoveling snow as my way of getting a workout and working wrapped together.

Posted by Mandy Buchholz (Benchmark Realty, LLC) over 9 years ago

I hear you Mandy!  In the past day I have cleaned the front 6 times and am still only half way down the driveway.  There is still the Himalaya mountain range between my cars and street!

The snow is three times as tall as our Jack, for whom I had to keep carving out a newly remodeled bathroom in the front yard.  The larger Beagle/Hound has not yet played in the back yard, confining herself to the underside of the deck!

Jay.....and we didn't get any this time.....our streets are bare and very ugly....the grass is brown with spots of snow on it about an inch deep.....nasty....we need new snow.

That is a lot of snow and a huge job to shovel.  Stay warm.

Jay should we add insult to injury with more snow predicted from Tuesday night or Wednesday am?  Really I mean really?

That's an awful lot of snow you guys got there. I hope you guys get a brake for a while.

Diane - I have already shoveled things 6 times and am only half way down the driveway.  Too much blowing!

Cindy - I heard.  And, as always, it's, "well, it depends on the track of the storm..."

Sue - too much.  This is our 4th highest year for snow totals in history, so far!

Jay,

With all the national records, for cold and snowfall, being set this winter it looks like a serious case of "global cooling".

As I remember from the 70's Steve.  By now, you should know, one third of the US was to be covered with 20' high glaciers and we would all be dead.  The same people are promoting global warming, you understand!

Jay, so have you ever seen snow like that in your area before?

Posted by Charles Buell, Seattle Home Inspector (Charles Buell Inspections Inc.) over 9 years ago

Charlie - in 1966 we got out of school for a whole week.  I remember jumping off the school roof into the pile of snow beside the parking lot!  In 1979 about the same and we were snowed in for a long time.  In 1996 we had a huge one and I had to shovel the snow off a flat roof over our front porch for fear of collapse!  This is supposedly the highest single snowfall in DC history.  And this year is #4 for total snow fall so far this year.  The other years were 1922 and twice in the 60's.

It is almost 1pm and I just got one car out of the driveway!  One more to go.  Should be done about 1am...

I guess I will stop complaining about the six inches we got down here at the beach last week. Uunfortunately it only takes a couple inches to shut things down for days. Hopefully the sun will lend you all a hand during the next few days.

Sorry for you!  I just heard on the news we are expecting another 5-8" tomorrow and into Wednesday Sally.  Yummie.  The last two predictions were underballed.  I hope we don't get another foot, but if we do, we do.  Darn global cooling...

Woweeeeee, that's a lot of snow, Jay. Ours stays in the mountains and blows down air in the 30's but even so we don't have to shovel.

Posted by Kate Kate over 9 years ago

Nana Kate - now they are saying 16" or more starting tomorrow morning.  Who knows, so far they haven't really gotten close!

Fill up the gas tank in the snowblower, we're in for it again.  12 more on Wednesday.  Keep the coffee hot.

And I was all oh so nice and warm until I started reading this post and looking at snow pictures. LOL

Sorry Russel my friend!  After things melted enough that I could make out the decks I noticed 4 flower boxes mysteriously missing.  I think the weight did them in and they are somewhere in the yard below...
