The sellers said they don't use the dishwasher, and I believe them!
Opening the door I saw the dishwasher was full of plates and small cups. Full of them.
Since I am going to run the unit anyway I suggested they put soap in and run it on a wash cycle so what I do isn't wasted.
The homeowner said they don't use it, but he would find some soap and start it up.
Coming down a while later this is what I found!
Calling the seller I told him what happened and he said he didn't know what soap to put in it, so he filled the tray with the dish soap in the cabinet.
I said there is special soap for dishwashers that has bubble suppressants in it so this doesn't happen! He said he thought any dish washing soap would work!
Telling him I felt badly because had I known he did not understand what soap to put in it, and had I seen what he was doing, I would have told him not to and that I would simply have tested the unit on a rinse cycle.
And I offered to clean it up once the bubbles popped!
He said, "We never use it for anything but storing dishes. We wash everything by hand."
And I believe him!
My recommendation: sometimes we assume people know what to do in a given circumstance! Well, you know what happens when we assume! A simple suggestion that the dishwasher be run turned out to be a lesson for the seller. What is life experience for?
